About Me

Just a quick word about me, Mandy McCarthy. Firstly qualifications as they are important. I hold IIST and ISRM as well as being a YMCA gym instructor and I also hold the Diploma of the Pilates Institute and a Level 3 Diploma in Yoga.

I specialise in sports injuries, remedial body works, advanced anatomy, RSA exercise to music, circuits, step spinning, Khai-Bo, Zumba & dance.

Being fit, being flexbile should be fun and should be something you enjoy. At my regular classes in Stanstead Abbots and Ware I make sure you not only look after your health, but after your spirits as well.

I am highly qualified with over 20 years experience, specialising in sports therapy, personal training, weight management, yoga, Pilates and Zumba.

Fun and fitness. That is my philosophy.

Beginning Pilates

Pilates will take you out of your comfort zone. A beginners class will teach you about body alignment, posture and breathing. You will soon understand the benefits which will change the way you exercise forever!

Advanced Pilates Flow

It will not be long before you graduate to a more advanced class, giving you exercises that will give you the suppleness and sleek look that is the trademark of Pilates.

Pilates Look

Pilates has been around for over 70 years, but has recently drawn much media coverage and is widely endorsed by celebrities such as Gwynneth Paltrow and most recently Pippa Middleton. Medical practitioners frequently recommend Pilates.

Zumba

What is Zumba?

Zumba is a Colombian dance fitness program created by dancer and choreographer Alberto "Beto" Perez during the 1990s. There are 12 million people taking weekly Zumba classes in over 110,000 locations across more than 126 countries.

What Does It Involve?

Zumba involves dance and aerobic elements. Zumba's choreography incorporates hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue, mambo, martial arts, and some Bollywood and belly dance moves. Squats and lunges are also included.


 

Personal Training

a regime just for you

Personal training offers specific observation, advice and training tailored to individual needs.

It includes a weekly programme, weight loss advice and a minimum of 1 hours one to one training with Mandy.

The training could include yoga, Pilates, walking, running, weights, boot camp etc!


 

Power Yoga

Power Yoga is a series of postures designed to improve strength, balance, flexibility and fitness!

The benefits of Yoga are well know but here are some of the benefits well-proven from yoga:

  • help relaxation
  • improve sleep
  • calmness of mind
  • gain muscle tone
  • lose weight!

I will take you from any stage to a very competant practitioner. Yoga is a skill for life.


 

Retreats

a time for yourself

Along with my good friend Jo De RosaI run fabulous retreats at the stunning Inner Guidance Retreat Centre in Lavenham, Suffolk.

This is a 16th Century Grade 2 Listed Retreat Centre.

The beautiful 500 year old venue is just outside the stunning village of Lavenham, which is probably the most picturesque medieval village you will come across.

Lavenham is regularly described as Britain's 'finest medieval town', though that doesn't really do it justice.

Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon was filmed here, as were The Witchfinder General (with Vincent Price) and episodes of Lovejoy. It was also used more recently for scenes in Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows.

Personal Training - from £45 an hour

Pilates - £7 per class

Zumba - £5 per class

Sport Massage - £30 for 30 mins, £45 for 1 hour

 

What if I'm not very fit?

As the Chinese Philosopher Lao-tzu said, "A journey of a thousand miles began with a single step". He said that some time in his life (c 604-c 531 BC) and it still as true today as it ever was. Take that single step which is sometimes the most difficult of all.

I am embarrased about my shape.
The very fact you are thinking about it is a very positive thing. So you feel and know you could improve yourself. Just do it. Everyone was a little apprehensive at their first class.

Should I eat or drink before I come to class?

Just have your normal food - but try to make sure you do not over indulge before coming along. And bring along a bottle of water in case you get thirsty. Remember tap water is just as good as the expensive stuff. It is all marketing.

What do I wear?

Simple rule - be comfortable and practical. If you feel good and it allows you to move freely it is right. If you have any queries about what to wear, give us a call and we can advise you.
